RUM still unhappy with picketing solution

KUALA LUMPUR: The Railway Union of Malaya (RUM) is still not satisfied with the solution over the termination of 97 union members for picketing in May 9.

Its president Abdul Razak Md Hassan claimed the agreement memorandum signed on Wednesday was biased and was not the draft prepared by the Human Resources Ministry.

"The memorandum favours one party and it is not a win-win situation as requested by the Human Resources Ministry.

"However, as the president, I am calling on all members to sign the agreement so that go back to their positions quickly, even though I did not sign the agreement to seek justice for union members," he told a media conference here today.

Abdul Razak said the other factor causing his dissatisfaction was the content of the memorandum requiring him to apologise to KTMB president Datuk Elias Kadir each day consecutively for three months on Facebook and the RUM official blog.

"I consider it unreasonable," he said.

All the employees have been given back their positions after they signed the agreement behind closed doors witnessed by Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib.

Meanwhile, KTMB chairman Datuk Nawawi Ahmad when contacted by Bernama declined to comment on the content of the memorandum but said he was happy that the workers have got their jobs back.

"My priority is to ensure the affected employees get back their jobs. As the chairman, I am happy the issue has been resolved based on humanitarian grounds," he said. – Bernama
