ON RIGHT TRACK: Group inked MoU on strategic partnership at the recent China-Malaysia Business Summit
NAZA Group is branching out into the train business through a strategic partnership with China’s electric locomotive manufacturer CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd.Together, they will implement and carry out the development and construction of potential locomotive projects here, said Naza group joint executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin.
“The alliance will open doors for the Naza group in the development of transportation infrastructure business, expanding from its traditional core business in the automotive sector and property development. With this partnership, both companies have provided the basis for a cooperation-focused framework that will enhance economic development, create new jobs and promote research and development for high-speed railway technology,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Naza and CSR Zhuzhou signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the alliance at the recent China-Malaysia Business Summit in Beijing, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Vice-Premier of China’s State Council Wang Yang.
“While Naza has been in the Malaysian automotive industry for 40 years, CSR Zhuzhou has a long-standing knowledge of supplying electric locomotive worldwide. Both parties could develop the best solutions faster to serve Malaysia’s rail needs for many years to come,” SM Nasarudin said.
A subsidiary of state-owned enterprise CSR Corp Ltd, CSR Zhuzhou is one of the major electric locomotive and rolling stock manufacturers in China.
The company mainly engages in, among others, traction motors, traction transformers, wind power motor and special motor manufacturing industry, electric locomotive and high-speed EMU (electric multiple unit).
It has over 78 years of experience in the railway industry with previous projects, including the fastest metro rail in China.
“This collaboration will not only provide the technical know-how and transfer of technology but also generate career opportunities for Bumiputera contractors and local multi-disciplinary white collar professionals,” he said.
